"CHI is the Chinese word for energy, and the Westbury restaurant of that name is filled with it. Don't expect Chinese food, however; the fare is that eclectic assembly of Italian favorites, Asian hits and steaks and chops that is often labeled New American.... Patrons enter through the active and very attractive bar, with its marble top and pressed-tin ceiling, then are led up a few steps, past a lounge area with leather couches and low tables, to a dining room that shouts "supper club!" ... The restaurant pulses with life, and the food is just as vibrant." - Joanne Starkey, The New York Times
"Chi delivers a new shot of energy to the neighborhood menu. It's a plush little spot, almost equal parts lounge and restaurant, aimed at bringing a stylized sort of Manhattan dining close to Eisenhower Park and Roosevelt Field.... Chi also is the kind of destination where you can order a martini that tastes like a cupcake or crème brûlée... The kitchen sends out a satisfying, sweet-spicy "kung pao" calamari, deftly fried and capped with crushed peanuts. If you're more inclined toward red sauce, there's an arrabiatta rendition fueled with sauteed garlic and cherry peppers. "Asian ribs," sake-glazed and roasted, are a hefty, marinated half-rack, but on the fatty side. Better: tender chicken satay with a peanut butter-coconut-lime sauce. The Asian theme continues with Sichuan-style beef, a pan-seared and sliced New York strip steak that gets its own chi from a cilantro- and shallot-seasoned demi-glace, along with jasmine-coconut rice and snow peas. Chi circulates westward with a thick cut of Chilean sea bass, encrusted with macadamia nuts, shiny with honey-raspberry vinegar and set on sauteed cabbage and a puree of white beans. The ordinarily bland fish becomes a vehicle for flavor. A husky grilled pork chop finds ideal company with vinegar peppers and creamy polenta. But short ribs seem spongy in red wine sauce. The juicy, grilled rack of lamb improves things. Conclude with berries in zabaglione or creamy cheesecake rather than the mousse or espressoed confections. Besides, Chi doesn't need caffeine." -Peter Gianotti, Newsday
